Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a field-based CDL driver to operate specialized rail inspection vehicles across Eastern or Western US. This role requires extensive travel (3-4 months at a time) and strict DOT compliance, safety protocols, and data collection support.

Applicants should hold a valid CDL with air brake endorsement, pass DOT and background checks, and be prepared for physically demanding work in varied weather conditions. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by Sperry.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of a field-based driving role.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars on roadways and tracks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensure DOT compliance.
• Assist with data collection and rail flaw detection testing.
• Maintain and repair detector carriage and equipment as needed.
