Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. is seeking a CDL Driver to operate specialized rail inspection vehicles across Eastern or Western US, with extended travel for 3–4 months at a time. This field-based role requires strict adherence to DOT and safety regulations.

The position involves driving hi-rail trucks, performing inspections, data collection, and maintaining equipment while ensuring safety; strong communication and physical stamina are essential.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
• Willingness to travel extensively.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Perform all work in the field in varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars on roadways and tracks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain DOT compliance.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection; monitor data.
• Maintain equipment, including detector carriage, and ensure cleanliness and organization.
• Follow all safety policies and DOT/FRA regulations; wear PPE.
• Communicate with crew via radio and report safety concerns promptly.
