Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a CDL Driver for a field-based role with extensive travel across Eastern or Western US. You will operate hi-rail vehicles, support testing operations, and ensure DOT and FRA compliance while collecting data.

This position requires staying in the field for 3–4 months at a time, frequent weather exposure, and strong communication. We offer a competitive hourly wage, travel perks, per diem, and sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check (where permitted by law).
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Basic mechanical aptitude (e.g., changing tires, replacing batteries).
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3-4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Operate commercial vehicles (hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars).
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain DOT compliance.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection.
• Perform ground-level rail inspections using handheld equipment.
• Maintain the vehicle and equipment, and ensure safety compliance.
• Communicate with crew members and report safety concerns promptly.
