Job summary

Stantec in the Oklahoma region seeks an Archaeology Technician to provide on-call field support, performing shovel test excavations, surveys, and monitoring while collecting data for a range of programs.

You will work outdoors in remote areas, adapt to weather, use GPS, maps, iPads, and collaborate with teams on Section 106/NEPA studies for clients.

This role emphasizes safety, independence, and travel; a degree in archaeology/anthropology is preferred, with field experience valued.

Qualifications

• Experience with GPS is an asset.
• Knowledge of Phase I, II, and III archaeological excavations/assessments is required.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• Capable of long hours walking in rugged terrain with equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
• Background check and drug/alcohol screening may be required by clients.

Responsibilities

• Perform shovel test excavations, pedestrian surveys, and monitoring.
• Record and evaluate soils using color, texture, and inclusions; navigate with compass and GPS.
• Set up site grid and excavations units; map plans and features.
• Identify artifacts and cultural features following procedures.
• Prepare site surfaces for mapping and photography; assist in laboratory work when indoors.
