Job summary

Stantec is seeking experienced Archaeology Technicians for project-based, hourly on-call work in the Midwest. You will support field programs, assist with data collection and analysis, and travel to diverse sites from urban to remote, including cemeteries and pipelines.

Safety and teamwork are essential as you contribute to multiple projects. The role involves Phase I–III activities, field and lab duties, and potential winter fieldwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field.
• Previous field school or CRM experience required.
• Technical Archaeology expertise is advantageous.
• Familiarity with ESRI Field Maps is desirable.
• Upper Midwest archaeology knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Working with field crews to conduct archaeological fieldwork.
• Demonstrating skills with precontact and historic artifact identification, soil analysis, and interpretation.
• Working under supervision of a field director or crew lead in Minnesota and nearby states.
• Occasional laboratory duties may be available.
• Traveling extensively to project sites.
• Prioritizing safety in field and laboratory practices.
• Operating and maintaining field equipment including GPS units, cameras, tablets, and hand tools.
• Following safety protocols for hazardous conditions and extreme weather.
• Participating in daily tailgate safety meetings and site safety plans.
• Exercising stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
