Job summary

BGE, Inc is hiring a Field Archaeologist for a temporary project-based role in the San Antonio area. The position focuses on cultural resources surveys, shovel testing, and field data collection using tablets and GPS, with potential travel across North Texas and nearby states.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in anthropology or archaeology, strong data documentation skills, and comfort with fieldwork under variable conditions. Travel and safety compliance are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in anthropology or archaeology; field school experience considered.
• Strong organizational skills and proficiency in data entry and report documentation.
• Ability to work in team environments and communicate findings clearly.
• MS Office proficiency; GPS/tablet data collection experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct phase one archaeological surveys including pedestrian surveys and shovel testing.
• Assist with excavation and trenching activities, primarily in Texas and nearby regions.
• Document field data using tablets, GPS devices, and maintain photo logs.
• Support report preparation, background research, and site documentation.
• Collaborate with project leads to ensure accurate data collection and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in fieldwork with mentorship and skill development opportunities.
• Communicate findings to project managers and team members.
• Travel within North Texas and occasionally to other states as needed.
