Job summary

BGE, Inc. is seeking a Field Archaeologist for a temporary, project-based assignment in the Houston area. The role includes phase one surveys, pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, and assistance with excavation.

You will collect field data with tablets and GPS, support report preparation, travel locally across North Texas and nearby states, and adhere to safety protocols; valid driver's license required.

Qualifications

• Career focus on cultural resources fieldwork.
• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or archaeology; field school experience considered.
• Solid organizational and data entry skills.
• Effective time management and written communication.
• Team-oriented with sound decisions in field and office.
• Willingness to travel locally within North Texas and to nearby states.
• Proficient with MS Office; GIS experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct phase one archaeological surveys including pedestrian surveys and shovel testing.
• Assist with excavation and trenching in Texas and surrounding regions.
• Collect and document field data using tablets and GPS, with detailed photo logs.
• Support preparation of reports and site documentation for projects.
• Collaborate with project leads to ensure accurate data collection and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in fieldwork under guidance of crew chiefs with mentorship opportunities.
• Communicate findings clearly to project managers and team members.
• Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry; GIS experience is a plus.
• Travel within North Texas and occasionally to other states; carry field equipment up to 40 lbs.
