Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a Fiber Splicer to construct and maintain end-to-end fiber optic networks. You will test, troubleshoot, and ensure quality while working in outdoor utility environments.

Proficiency with fusion splicing and OTDR equipment is required, along with the ability to read fiber designs and documentation. You will join a safety-conscious team, handle varied shifts with overtime, and contribute to reliable communications infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience.
• Safety is a day-to-day priority.
• Hands-on approach and strong problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work on outdoor utility sites and on varied shifts with overtime.

Responsibilities

• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic network continuity.
• Operate testing equipment and resolve common fiber issues.
• Prepare fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.).
• Use fusion splicer, OTDR, DWDM/CWDM, OLTS, Max Tester, and power meters.
• Understand fiber design, read documentation, and monitor light levels and dB loss.
• Work at outdoor utility construction sites.

Responsibilities

As a Fiber Splicer, you are responsible for producing end-to-end fiber optic networks. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.

• Testing and troubleshooting the continuity of fiber optic networks
• Operate all testing equipment and be adept at the resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks
• Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures such as Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.
• Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter
• Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels, and dB loss
• Work in outdoor utility construction sites

Qualifications

Compensation of $25-$40 per hour.
