Job summary

On Trac Communications is seeking a Fiber Technician to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks in both aerial and underground environments. You will troubleshoot outages, splice fiber, test with OTDRs, document work, and ensure safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of fiber experience with fusion splicing, OTDRs, and fiber testing equipment, plus a valid driver’s license. Able to lift up to 75 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, or restoration preferred.
• Experience with aerial and underground fiber infrastructure.
• Proficiency with single fusion and ribbon splicing techniques.
• Proficient in OTDRs, optical power meters, and fiber inspection equipment.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and network documentation.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, restore, and repair aerial and underground fiber optic cable plant.
• Perform fiber optic splicing for termination and midspan applications.
• Troubleshoot fiber networks to identify and resolve outages.
• Utilize OTDRs and power meters to verify network integrity.
• Document all work, splice records, test results, and restoration activities.
• Coordinate with dispatch and field personnel to prioritize work and restore service.
