Job summary

TDS Telecom provides high-speed internet across communities and seeks an Outside Plant Construction Technician II to build and maintain our fiber network. You will work on aerial and buried facilities, operate trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, and plows, install and test fiber, and keep safety at the forefront.

Training includes a path to a Class A CDL through our in-house program. We value teamwork, safety, and practical construction skills, with opportunities for travel and flexible scheduling

Qualifications

• 1+ years of construction equipment operation with directional drills, trenchers/plows, backhoe or bucket trucks OR current military service with honorable discharge.
• Must follow attendance guidelines to meet business needs and service obligations.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be eligible for DOT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain aerial and buried fiber facilities per maps, staking sheets and safety standards.
• Install, splice, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber using specialized equipment.
• Conduct cable fault tests, locate defects, and resolve issues efficiently.
• Update GIS, maps and as-builts; label infrastructure like pedestals and handholes.
• Restore worksites to original condition after project completion.
• Train and mentor team members and support field service technicians.
• Complete required documentation promptly.
