Job summary

TDS Telecom seeks an Outdoor Construction Technician to perform general construction tasks, operate HDD equipment, and support fiber splicing and maintenance across outdoor sites. You will climb poles, run bucket trucks, and install aerial and buried fiber per maps and locate markings.

The role offers a full‑time schedule with training for CDL, safety, and equipment operation; includes a $5,000 sign‑on bonus and potential relocation assistance. Travel for training may be required.

Qualifications

• 6+ months experience in customer service, electrical or utility construction, or technical certification (or military service).
• Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL; in-house CDL certification program after hire.
• Physical requirements: climb poles, ladders, towers; lift up to 50 pounds (occasionally over 100).
• Must pass safety training and background checks; may require travel.
• Horizontal directional drilling experience preferred; basic telecommunication knowledge.
• Must be willing to work overtime and varying shifts; can operate manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal directional drill or locate for the drill.
• Restore job sites and maintain project labels and markings.
• Support fiber splicing and repair activities.
• Climb poles and use bucket trucks as needed.
• Install, maintain, test, and repair buried and aerial fiber lines.
• Operate trenching and excavation equipment.
• Set pedestals, vaults, handholes, and other outside plant infra.
• Label fiber and copper facilities accurately.
• Coordinate with dispatch and field tools for project work.
• Participate in fiber splicing and maintenance activities.
