Job summary

IES Communications is seeking a Field Engineer I - Fiber to support installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks at customer sites. You will work closely with senior engineers and project teams to ensure reliable network performance and successful deployments.

The role emphasizes hands-on field work, learning fiber technologies, and compliance with safety and customer requirements while traveling to sites as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in telecom, fiber optics, or field services.
• Basic understanding of fiber optics, cabling, and connectivity standards.
• Willingness to learn fiber testing equipment and procedures.
• Ability to read technical documentation and follow engineering specs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cabling.
• Perform fiber certification testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other testing equipment.
• Support network deployments, upgrades, relocations, and maintenance activities.
• Read diagrams and engineering documents to ensure correct splicing and connections.
• Document test results and asset information accurately.
• Collaborate with project teams and customers to keep projects on schedule.
