Job summary

IES is seeking a Technician II - Fiber to manage all aspects of fiber installation, termination, testing, and splicing across multimode and single‑mode systems. The candidate will handle cabling, testing with OTDRs, connector terminations, and outside plant splicing, ensuring compliance with labeling standards and IES procedures.

Requires HS diploma or GED, fiber experience, tool proficiency, and ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess and be proficient with the listed tools.
• Must be proficient at terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
• Must have Testing & Troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems experience (OTDR & PMLS).
• Must be able to meet IES driving standards policy.
• Prefer 5-7 years of experience in Fiber.
• Prefer Industry Certifications (Corning/FOA).
• Prefer Data Center installation experience.
• Prefer Mechanical and Fusion Splice experience.
• Prefer OSP / Confined Space Entry experience (splicing).
• Must be able to use the following trade Tools: Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves. Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, and Krone/3M/BIX.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and splice fiber cabling and related hardware as part of construction and maintenance.
• Terminate fiber using connectors such as LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP for MMF and SMF.
• Perform testing, continuity checks, and troubleshooting across fiber runs.
• Install and terminate cables, racks, and related hardware and complete IES paperwork accurately and on time.
• Carry out splicing (mechanical and fusion) and build/terminate outside plant fiber
• Work safely at heights and in confined spaces; travel within branch/region as needed.
