Job summary

IES is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer I - Fiber to support installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic infrastructure across customer sites in the United States. The role collaborates with senior engineers, technicians, and project teams to ensure reliable network performance and on-time project execution.

The position emphasizes hands-on field work, reading engineering diagrams, documenting results, and adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Telecommunications, IT, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber optics, or related field.
• Basic understanding of fiber optic technologies, cable types, and connectivity standards.
• Familiarity with structured cabling practices and installation standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cabling and connectivity solutions.
• Perform fiber certification testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other testing equipment.
• Support new network deployments, upgrades, relocations, and maintenance activities.
• Conduct inspections of fiber infrastructure and identify performance or service issues.
• Troubleshoot physical layer connectivity problems and escalate complex issues.
