Job summary

City of Pharr is hiring a Full Time Broadband Engineering Specialist to lead field operations and fiber optic construction. You will inspect conduits, hand holes, and vaults, perform fusion splicing, read construction blueprints, and supervise subcontractors to ensure safety and compliance.

You should have FTTH/network expertise, WAN/LAN/WLAN management skills, and proficiency with diagnostic tools such as OTDRs, VFLs, and meters, plus GIS and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fiber to the home/premise networks (FTTX) practices.
  • Ability to implement, manage, and monitor local and wide area networks.
  • Experience with wireless networks and network diagnostic tools.
  • Proficiency with OTDRs, VFLs, and power meters; read GIS maps and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and customer-focused demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect underground infrastructure for defects and oversee repairs.
  • Perform fusion splicing with minimal loss and interpret blueprints.
  • Oversee subcontractors to ensure safety and project compliance.
  • Conduct pre-construction audits and post-installation quality tests.
  • Maintain daily reports, metadata, and documentation; ensure data security.
