Job summary

Albany State University is seeking a Federal Work Study Afterschool Assistant to help plan, organize, and monitor activities for children in the afterschool program at our Albany State Rec. Location.

Under supervision, you will assist with daily activities, homework support, and safety, while engaging students in educational and recreational activities. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current Albany State University student enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to work outdoors in any variety of weather.
  • Submit required documents: cover letter, resume, unofficial transcripts, and three references.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing a daily afterschool program; set up activities and areas as needed.
  • Collaborate to design activities that encourage intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic growth.
  • Monitor small groups to maintain safety and adherence to program rules.
  • Support children's health, safety, and well-being during activities.
  • Interact with children to build self-esteem and positive peer relations.

Location

Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, plan, organize, facilitate, and monitor the activities of children enrolled.

Monitor and interact with students to keep them engaged in activities. Participate and assist with the activities and homework of children enrolled in the afterschool program, as needed.

Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a daily program that will meet the needs of the children in attendance; set up program, project, and activity areas as needed.
  • Collaborate in designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendees\' intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities; assist students in working on and completing after-school program assignments, projects, and activities.
  • Monitor individuals or small groups of students assigned to an after-school program; assure student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintain appropriate order and student conduct.
  • Monitor children to ensure their health, safety, and physical well-being.
  • Interact with children in an effort to build self-esteem and form a comfort level with their peers; answer student questions; and provide proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Oversee students in tennis and outdoor activities.
  • Assist in resolving student disputes; refer serious discipline problems to program supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrate and involve students in cleaning and organizing the program activity areas before, during, and after use.
  • Operate a variety of after-school program supplies and equipment, including athletic equipment, arts and crafts equipment, and office equipment as assigned.
  • Perform light housekeeping such as taking trash out in the classroom at the end of day, wiping down tables, vacuuming the classroom, etc.
  • Making sure all proper documents for center schedules are sent out to Parents in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current Albany State Student enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours.Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of children
  • Repetitive bending, walking and stretching
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Visual and hearing capabilities necessary to maintain safety
  • Perform light duty cleaning
