Job summary

Brooklyn Defender Services in Brooklyn, NY seeks an experienced Federal Immigration Litigation Attorney to join the detained removal defense team within our Immigration Practice. The position focuses on challenging unlawful immigration court decisions and representing noncitizens in federal proceedings.

We are a public defense office serving low-income New Yorkers across criminal, family, immigration, and civil matters.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of immigration law and/or federal litigation experience.
• Admission to NY Bar, or ability to become admitted in New York.
• Experience writing, filing, and arguing federal court litigation for immigrant rights.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to urgent situations.
• Strong written and oral advocacy and efficient organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary counsel on federal district and circuit court litigation related to immigrant rights.
• Appear in district and circuit courts and conduct oral argument.
• Draft pleadings, briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
• Research and analyze legal theories to challenge constitutional, statutory, and regulatory violations.
• Collaborate with pro bono attorneys on federal court litigation.
• Plan and present litigation updates and training for BDS staff.
• Additional duties as assigned.
