Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as the technical liaison between federal government design and construction teams and contractors. The role requires reviewing submittals and reports for compliance with standards, applying engineering principles across project phases, and supporting cost estimates with government estimators. Will mentor staff and maintain strong client relationships.

Domestic travel is required (100%). A PE license or RA is preferred; U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• US citizenship and ability to pass a federal background check.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical liaison between federal government client design branch, construction branch, and contractors.
• Review design submittals, shop drawings, specifications, RFIs, and technical reports for compliance with Federal and client specific standards.
• Apply engineering principles and relevant codes across planning, investigation, design review, construction administration, and assessment of engineering procedures, structures, systems, and tools.
• Monitors progress and prepares technical reports and/or project status reports.
• Provide engineering judgment for field modifications, non-conformance issues, value engineering proposals, and constructability reviews.
• Develop client relationships and serve as liaison with clients; ensure documentation and compliance with contract requirements.
• Assist in the development of cost estimates and supporting analysis in coordination with government cost estimators and contracting officers.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings, progress reviews, and project closeout/punchlist activities.
• Conduct or assist in quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
• Develop and mentor junior engineering staff and guide technical direction and best practices.
