Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) is seeking a Coordinator of Family Programs to develop and oversee innovative informal science and nature programs for visiting children and their families. You will train volunteers and teen staff, collaborate with the ECAG team, and ensure engaging drop-in and special event experiences in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden.

Qualifications

• BA in Botany, Environmental Science, Education, Museum Studies or related field.
• Experience creating outdoor inquiry- and play-based educational programs.
• Experience mentoring/supervising adolescents and adults in teaching roles.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Detail-oriented, organized and a team player.

Responsibilities

• Develop and assess educational programs for visiting families led by adult volunteers and teen Explainers.
• Collaborate with Creative Services and ECAG Exhibits staff to produce materials and displays.
• Train adolescent staff and volunteers to implement drop-in and registered programs.
• Supervise the teen Explainer Program and manage budgets and ledgers.
• Provide on-site instruction for visiting school groups using inquiry-based techniques.
• Curate and care for teaching plant collections in the Greenhouse.
