Job summary

The Greenwich Botanical Center invites applications for an outdoor Forest Days intern to assist in our child-led programs for ages 12 months through 10 years. This role emphasizes hands-on learning outdoors and supporting lead educators.

You will help prepare materials, assist with classes, and gain exposure to nonprofit operations while engaging children in play and discovery across all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Willing to spend time outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with children aged 12 months to 8 years.
  • Interest in nonprofit work and youth education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead educators during Forest Days classes.
  • Prepare class materials and clean up after activities.
  • Support engagement of children in play and exploration outdoors.

Job description

Position Summary: The Greenwich Botanical Center (GBC) is looking for an intern that is interested in working with children aged 12months -10 years old in our all-weather outdoor child led Forest Days classes.

There are three types of classes we offer. 1. Explore with Me is for 12months –3 year olds with a care giver for 50mins. 2. Little Rangers is a drop off class for 2.5 hours in the forest with 3-5year olds. 3. Afternoon Adventurers is 2 hour, drop off class for K-2nd graders and 3rd-5th graders.

We offer these classes and camp at a range of times Mondays-Fridays.

The two most important attributes that an individual applying for this position have are:
1. Being interested and willing to spend time outside in all weather conditions
2. Being capable of working with children aged 12months-8years of age

Interns will receive first-hand experience working with children in our nature-based programs as they assist our lead educators. Responsibilities include class material preparation and clean up, assisting the lead teacher with Forest Days classes and exposure to a small local nonprofit at work.
