Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden is seeking an Outreach and Education Coordinator to develop and promote community outreach, education programs, and technical assistance for composting and horticulture initiatives in the Bronx.

You will organize events, lead workshops, manage volunteers, and handle a range of administrative duties while collaborating with partners and the public in various venues. Evening hours and local travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum two years of related work experience in outreach, education, environmental programming or related field.
  • Knowledge of composting, community greening and environmental stewardship.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other common computer applications.
  • Experience working with the public, independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, promote, conduct, and document outreach and educational activities.
  • Organize events, workshops, and training programs on compost and horticulture topics.
  • Track and record data for required reports and performance metrics.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and develop volunteers for the Bronx Green-Up program.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to residents, schools, and organizations.
  • Create handouts, flyers, and other informational materials.
  • Perform outdoor work and weather-related tasks as needed.
