Job summary

New York Botanical Garden is seeking a Coordinator of Family Programs to develop innovative informal science experiences for visiting children and their families. You will train and mentor staff and volunteers, manage budgets, and collaborate across ECAG to deliver engaging outdoor learning experiences across seasons.

The role involves leading registered caregiver/child programs, supporting drop-in activities, and coordinating materials and displays with ECAG teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience creating outdoor inquiry- and play-based educational programs in informal settings.
  • Experience developing curriculum for informal, outdoor science family programs.
  • Experience mentoring/supervising adolescents and adults in teaching roles.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Team player with creativity, attention to detail and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and assess educational programs for visiting families led by adult volunteers and adolescent Explainers.
  • Collaborate with Explainer Coordinator to train teen staff and volunteers.
  • Under supervision, manage budgets and monthly ledgers.
  • Supervise 12-acre indoor and outdoor facilities on weekends and weekdays as needed.
  • Provide on-site instruction for visiting school groups using inquiry-based techniques.
  • Participate in multi-session Children’s Education professional learning.
  • Curate and care for teaching plant collection in Greenhouse.
