Job summary

California Teaching Fellows Foundation in Fresno, CA seeks Teaching Fellows to work with students in expanded learning programs, providing tutoring, guiding, and supporting learners in a safe, structured environment.

The role includes monitoring daily activities, developing lesson plans, submitting plans, providing tutoring, reporting progress, and upholding safety protocols; candidates must be 18+, have a HS diploma, and be eligible to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • 18 years old or older.
  • Have obtained a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Completion of 48 college units or passage of an approved exam, if applicable, to meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.
  • Proficiency in the English language, including spelling, grammar, and composition; ability to speak multiple languages is recognized as beneficial but not required.
  • General understanding of educational standards and the public school system.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and Tuberculosis exam.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and mentor student learning activities daily.
  • Develop lesson plans and establish clear objectives for each day.
  • Submit lesson plans to Teaching Fellows, ensuring target standards are met.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring.
  • Prepare reports to track student progress and accomplishments.
  • Enforce behavioral rules and procedures to maintain order.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and behavior.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are used properly.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (Teaching Fellow Academies) once a month and training as scheduled.
  • Offer opinions and suggestions on program decisions.
  • Adhere to any directives given by site lead, assistant site lead, or liaison.

Note: If you have fewer than five days of availability (Monday‑Friday), your application will be considered for a substitute tutor position. Substitute tutors are placed on an on‑call basis according to the schedule preferences indicated on your application.

What it’s like to be a Teaching Fellow

As a Teaching Fellow, you’ll work directly with students in expanded learning programs. Tutoring, guiding, and supporting young learners through hands‑on activities while ensuring a safe, structured, and positive environment for every student in your classroom.

The Opportunity
  • Monitor and mentor student learning activities daily.

Communication & Safety
  • Foster good communication with fellow tutors, teachers, and with the California Teaching Fellows Foundation.
  • Collaborate with other tutors on lesson planning and program goals.
  • Ensure student safety and supervise all of their activities.
  • Follow emergency procedures set forth by Teaching Fellows and/or school districts.
  • Report any incidents promptly to the site lead, school administration, or local authorities.
Perform Other Duties as Assigned
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (Teaching Fellow Academies) once a month and training as scheduled.
  • Offer opinions and suggestions on program decisions.
  • Adhere to any directives given by site lead, assistant site lead, or liaison.
