Main Purpose of Job
To develop a comprehensive Drama program, in which students are introduced to individualized, developmentally appropriate instructional programs that allow them to gain confidence and engage in activities that promote creative and collaborative exploration. To provide a language enriched environment through the use of American Sign Language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf students.
POSITION DUTIES
Toteach drama to Kindergarten through Middle School students using grade-levelMaryland College and Career Ready Standards and American Sign LanguageStandards in addition to the ASL-English Bilingual Framework; assess andinstruct students using their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); plan,prepare, and deliver lesson plans that facilitate active learning; maintain aclassroom conducive to learning; design and make materials for lessons; managestudent behavior and collect data; coordinate with teachers and otherprofessionals to provide literacy/drama activities; provide support toclassroom staff to insure appropriate integration of drama related skills tolanguage arts instruction; assist individual students with receptive andexpressive skills, as needed; assist with class, department and school wideproductions and presentations; follow school policies and procedures outlinedin the MSD Handbook; maintain professional training and certification; andassume other responsibilities as designated by the Middle School Principal orthe Chief Educational Programs Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degreerequired.Candidates must be eligible to apply for or bewilling to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Educationwithin a prescribed amount of time.�Fluency in American Sign Language andwritten English required. �Knowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf Education,students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students ondifferent levels and with varying educational and language acquisitionbackgrounds is required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master'sdegree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students. Acting, directing,or drama teaching experience desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
