Stanford Engineering's Computer Science Department seeks a Faculty Affairs and Staffing Manager to lead faculty affairs for 70+ faculty and supervise the Faculty Affairs Administrator. This pivotal role reports to the Department Director of Finance and Operations and collaborates with the department chair and School of Engineering leadership.

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated Faculty Affairs experience, ability to manage high volumes of applications, and knowledge of Stanford HR processes

Qualifications

  • Experience with faculty affairs processes and HR practices.
  • Ability to handle high volumes of applications and complex forms.
  • Knowledge of visa processes (J-1, H-1, O-1, TN, E3) and green card workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee hiring, appointments, promotions, leaves, sabbaticals and personnel actions.
  • Coordinate faculty visas and permanent residency processes.
  • Maintain faculty records, generate leadership reports, and analyze data.
  • Advise on university, federal and academic personnel policies.
  • Coordinate faculty recruitment, interviews, campus visits and related logistics.
  • Supervise the Faculty Affairs/HR Administrator and ensure compliance.

Work Arrangement

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of 3 days/week working at the Stanford main campus, subject to operational needs.

Budgeted Salary:

The budgeted base salary range for this position is $104,412 - $127,926 per annum.

The Computer Science Department

Throughout the past five decades, the Stanford CS Department has influenced society at levels that remain without parallel among academic institutions. Its spin-offs are among the most successful corporate ventures in the world, and many of the leaders in academic and corporate research world are graduates of the Stanford CS Department.

The Computer Science Department is seeking a Faculty Affairs and Staffing Manager. This position is part of the Computer Science Department’s central administrative team and its main focus is Faculty Affairs for 70+ faculty and supervision of the Faculty Affairs Administrator 1. This position reports to the Department Director of Finance and Operations and works closely with the department chair and School of Engineering Faculty Affairs.

Preferred Education & Experience
  • Demonstrated Faculty Affairs experience.
  • Ability to work with a high volume of applications and long forms annually.
  • Experience with FASA.
  • Knowledge of Stanford HR processes and benefits.
  • J-1, H-1, O-1, TN, E3 and green card processing experience.
In This Role You Will
  • Manage faculty affairs: Oversee hiring, appointments, promotions, leaves, sabbaticals, and other personnel actions.
  • Manage immigration: Coordinate faculty visas and permanent residency processes.
  • Analyze and report data: Maintain faculty records and prepare reports for leadership.
  • Interpret policies: Advise faculty and leadership on university, federal, and academic personnel policies.
  • Coordinate recruitment: Manage faculty searches, interviews, campus visits, and related logistics.
  • Supervise staff: Oversee the Faculty Affairs/HR Administrator and ensure compliance.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
  • May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
