Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an engineer to commission, operate, test, and maintain FACTS and HVDC systems in support of the transmission grid. The role includes reviewing project specifications, drawings, and vendor documents, and providing field commissioning support with local teams.

The position requires ABET-accredited engineering education, 2+ years of related experience, and successful completion of the Physical Abilities Test.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• Minimum 2+ years of related engineering technology experience.
• Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

Responsibilities

• Assist in testing and calibration of FACTS controllers and fundamental relay equipment.
• Lead on-site activities for installation and commissioning of FACTS equipment.
• Perform troubleshooting and field restoration of FACTS devices and related controls.
• Coordinate and schedule annual FACTS maintenance work plan.
• Respond to emergency call-outs and coordinate prompt restoration of service.
• Read electrical schematics and vendor documentation to support FACTS device operation.
