Job summary

The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a Facilities Service Supervisor to lead day-to-day custodial operations and building/grounds maintenance for City facilities. This leadership role ensures buildings are clean, safe, and ready to serve employees, residents, and visitors daily.

You will oversee a team, supervise environmental service contracts, and coordinate with internal departments to meet service standards and safety requirements. Strong communication and planning skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years of college coursework or an associate's degree preferred.
• 3–5 years in maintenance or custodial services with lead or supervisory responsibilities.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population.

Responsibilities

• Directs custodial operations and building/grounds maintenance for City facilities.
• Delegates tasks, provides clear guidance, and conducts performance evaluations.
• Administers planning, scheduling, and coordination of environmental service contracts.
• Reviews work to ensure safety, quality, and adherence to standards.
• Collaborates with internal departments to respond to maintenance requests.
• Oversees facility access control and security system updates.
• Manages custodial product inventory and distribution with City departments.
• Develops procurement specs for goods and services per City policies.
• Performs related duties to support safe operations and high-quality service.
