Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Building and Grounds Assistant Manager to lead custodial, grounds, and minor maintenance teams across facilities. You will ensure daily operations run smoothly, coordinate staff, and manage resources to meet service standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities include planning grounds and building tasks, overseeing supplies and vendor coordination, and contributing to SOP development and training programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with six years of related experience, including at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
• One additional year of education may substitute for required experience (maximum substitution of four years).
• Experience supervising custodial, grounds-keeping, and building maintenance teams across multiple facilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing custodial, grounds keeping, and maintenance crews with daily work and quality control.
• Coordinate with divisions and contractors to schedule and deliver services.
• Support set-up and tear-down of event spaces and oversee inventory and purchases.
• Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are maintained and safe for use; coordinate repairs as needed.
• Write reports and communicate with staff, departments, and the public.
