Job summary

BRC is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across its residential, shelter, and program facilities in New York City areas, including Queens. You will perform custodial tasks, assist with light maintenance, and support operations while ensuring a dignified setting for clients and staff.

The role requires a year of custodial or facilities experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• At least 1 year in custodial or facilities maintenance.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and safety practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect common areas, offices, restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and client spaces.
• Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste materials.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and restroom supplies.
• Support facility readiness by setting up, moving, or arranging furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and events.
• Complete routine building inspections and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment failures, and repair needs.
• Help building operations through light maintenance activities, such as changing light bulbs, and assisting maintenance staff.
• Communicate facility needs and maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
• Provide excellent customer service while interacting with clients, residents, visitors, vendors, and staff.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs, maintenance records, and complete assigned documentation.
