Job summary

BRC - Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across its residential, shelter, and program facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens.

You will perform custodial duties, assist with light maintenance, and support operations while delivering excellent customer service to clients and staff. This is an entry-level role offering growth and a stable schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience preferred.
• At least 1 year of custodial, porter, janitorial, or related facilities maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to follow work orders and maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Strong attention to detail and customer service mindset.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect areas including restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and client spaces.
• Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and recyclables.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies.
• Set up furniture, equipment for meetings and events.
• Report maintenance issues and safety hazards.
• Assist maintenance staff with light duties including changing light bulbs.
• Provide excellent customer service to clients and staff.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs and documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
