Job summary

The Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across BRC residential, shelter, and program facilities in New York City. You will support custodial services, sanitation, waste management, and basic maintenance tasks to ensure spaces are ready for clients, staff, and visitors.

This role requires physical fitness, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team, with a focus on safety and respectful,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• At least 1 year of custodial or facilities-related experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation, and safety.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
• Ability to work in a team and follow maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial duties across residential, shelter, and office areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, sanitize, and disinfect spaces.
• Dispose of trash and manage waste materials.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and restroom stock.
• Assist with light maintenance tasks and report issues.
• Provide excellent customer service to clients, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain cleaning logs and maintenance records.
