Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee in New York City is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within BRC residential, shelter, and program facilities. You will perform custodial tasks, assist with light maintenance, monitor supplies, and help with equipment setup for meetings and events.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, at least one year in custodial or facilities work, and a focus on safety, attention to detail, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• One year or more of custodial/porter/janitorial experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and workplace safety practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect areas.
• Dispose of trash, recycling, and waste materials properly.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and restroom products.
• Support facility readiness by setting up furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and events.
• Complete routine inspections and report maintenance safety hazards and equipment failures.
• Assist with light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs.
• Communicate facility needs to supervisors and managers.
• Provide excellent customer service to clients, staff, and visitors.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs and related records.
