Job summary

BRC - Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain clean, safe and welcoming environments across residential, shelter, and program facilities in New York City.

The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager and supports operations, safety, and client-focused service. Responsibilities include daily custodial duties, supply management, light maintenance, and documenting inspections.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 1+ year in custodial services, porter services, janitorial work, or related fields.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect areas including restrooms, kitchens, and client spaces.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and restroom products.
• Support facility readiness by setting up, moving, or arranging furniture and equipment for meetings and events.
• Complete routine building inspections and report maintenance issues and safety hazards.
• Assist maintenance staff with light maintenance tasks and equipment care.
• Communicate facility needs to supervisors.
• Provide excellent customer service to clients, staff, and visitors.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs and documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
