Job summary

BRC is seeking a Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across residential, shelter, and program facilities in New York City. You will support operations, assist with light maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety standards while delivering courteous service to clients and staff.

The role requires basic custodial experience, physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and a strong commitment to cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety practices.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, custodial tools, and cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to follow maintenance procedures, work orders, and operational instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect common areas, offices, restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and client spaces.
• Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste materials.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and restroom supplies.
• Support facility readiness by setting up, moving, or arranging furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and events.
• Complete routine building inspections and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment failures, and repair needs.
• Help building operations through light maintenance activities, such as changing light bulbs, and assisting maintenance staff.
• Communicate facility needs and maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
• Provide excellent customer service while interacting with clients, residents, visitors, vendors, and staff.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
• Maintain cleaning logs, maintenance records, and complete assigned documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
