Job summary

Greenwich House is seeking a dedicated Porter to maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance across our facilities in New York. You will support event setup, assist with tear-down, monitor safety, guide staff and visitors, manage cleaning supplies, and report maintenance needs.

This full-time onsite role requires flexibility for weekends/evenings, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and a team-oriented, customer-focused mindset. Join a mission-driven nonprofit serving New Yorkers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and organization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends or evenings as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
• Physical stamina and strength to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Comfortable working in various weather conditions if outdoor maintenance is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
• Empty trash bins and replace liners as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in outdoor areas, such as sidewalks, building entryways and walkways. May include leaf and snow removal.
• Report any maintenance or repair issues to the appropriate department.
• Help set up rooms or areas for events, meetings, or conferences.
• Arrange furniture and equipment as required.
• Assist in tearing down and cleaning up after events.
• Monitor and report any safety hazards, such as spills or damaged equipment.
• Ensure that fire exits are clear and accessible.
• Lock and unlock doors as per the schedule.
• Collaborate with security personnel when necessary.
• Provide assistance and directions to employees, visitors, and guests.
• Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor when interacting with others.
• Respond to requests and inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when reordering is needed.
• Keep track of equipment and report any damage or loss.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols.
• Follow established procedures for cleaning and maintenance.
• Complete required training and certifications.
