Job summary

Greenwich House in New York City is seeking a dedicated Porter to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for staff and visitors. You will perform routine cleaning, assist with event setup, monitor safety, and support daily site operations in a mission‑driven nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

Position Summary

As a Porter, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our facilities. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring that the premises are clean, organized, and presentable for both employees and visitors. You will also assist with various tasks related to facility management, contributing to a positive and welcoming environment. Responsibilities
Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
  • Empty trash bins and replace liners as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in outdoor areas, such as sidewalks, building entryways and walkways. May include leaf and snow removal.
  • Report any maintenance or repair issues to the appropriate department.
Assist with Set-Up and Tear-Down
  • Help set up rooms or areas for events, meetings, or conferences.
  • Arrange furniture and equipment as required.
  • Assist in tearing down and cleaning up after events.
Safety and Security
  • Monitor and report any safety hazards, such as spills or damaged equipment.
  • Ensure that fire exits are clear and accessible.
  • Lock and unlock doors as per the schedule.
  • Collaborate with security personnel when necessary.
Customer Service
  • Provide assistance and directions to employees, visitors, and guests.
  • Maintain a friendly and helpful demeanor when interacting with others.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries promptly and professionally.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when reordering is needed.
  • Keep track of equipment and report any damage or loss.
Compliance and Procedures
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Follow established procedures for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Complete required training and certifications.

Salary Range

The expected hourly rate for this position is between $23.00 per hour. This range reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of this posting and may be adjusted based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
