Job summary

Greenwich House in New York City is seeking a dedicated Porter to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for staff and visitors. You will perform routine cleaning, assist with event setup, monitor safety, and support daily site operations in a mission‑driven nonprofit environment.

The role offers a 35‑hour work week (Mon‑Fri, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM) onsite at 20 Washington Square North, with benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a similar role preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
• Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and organization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends or evenings as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
• Physical stamina for cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Comfortable working in various weather conditions if outdoor maintenance is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
• Empty trash and replace liners; maintain outdoor cleanliness.
• Assist with event setup and teardown; arrange furniture as needed.
• Report safety hazards; keep fire exits clear.
• Provide directions and help to employees and visitors.
• Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and notify when reordering.
• Follow safety guidelines and complete required training.
