Rochester General Hospital is seeking an experienced painter to provide interior and exterior finishing, restoration, and minor construction work across the facility. You will read manuals, prep walls and ceilings, and apply finishes while adhering to safety programs and regulatory requirements.

The role demands strong coordination with facilities leaders, reporting updates, and maintaining documentation. Typical hours are 40 per week, day shift, with 8-hour shifts, and on-site work at 1445

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years painting experience with finish work focus.
  • Must be able to read and interpret OEM manuals and product data sheets.
  • Adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA, JCAHO, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate updates to facilities leadership and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, schedule and perform all painting work via the work request system.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to plan and prioritize restoration tasks.
  • Perform restoration and minor construction work (flooring, ceiling tiles, wall finishes) as needed.
  • Utilize tools and equipment safely to complete tasks to professional standards.
  • Maintain logs, records, and reports of work performed and training received.

STATUS: Full-TimeLOCATION: Rochester General Hospital - 1445 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621DEPARTMENT: FacilitiesSCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Day shift, 8-hr. shifts, 7 am - 3:30 pm; Monday - FridayPosition Summary:Provide painting and other surface restoration services to interior and exterior surfaces throughout the facility. Work involves preparing and restoring walls, ceilings, and floors using a variety of techniques and tools to apply paints and other surface materials/products as needed to complete assigned tasks.Key Responsibilities:Plan, coordinate, schedule, and perform all painting work that comes in through the work request system.Work directly with supervisor or other Facilities leaders to plan, coordinate, and prioritize other preparation/restoration work that is identified and approved to schedule.Perform restoration and minor construction work such as (flooring installations, ceiling tile/grid replacements, wall finish work such as wallpaper) and other removals and installation of equipment that may be mounted in areas of the building.Communicate updates to facilities leaders and customers regarding task status, work schedule adjustments, issues or concerns, and any other changes that may impact the task/project.Has the knowledge and ability to utilize tools and equipment such as (paint mixer, power drills/saws, paint sprayer equipment, power wash equipment, and other tools/equipment necessary to complete tasks in a professional manner.Provides needed support and problem-solving techniques to support all other trade fields as needed for their successful completion of work assignments.Has the knowledge and ability to read, interpret, and understand OEM manuals, specifications, and other product data sheets to apply finishes or perform minor restoration/construction work in a safe and professional manner.Utilize basic knowledge of codes and other regulations related to the construction/restoration trade fields to complete assigned tasks with compliant outcomes.Assist other team members in performing tasks assigned by facilities leaders during utility/equipment shutdowns as necessary to complete tasks/projects.Assist department leadership in managing any work activities as assigned.Maintain regulatory compliance with ICRA and PICRA safety plans, lockout tag-out, confined space, MSDS, and all other regulatory programs as assigned to maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements such as JCAHO, State, OSHA, NEC, SOC, etc.Report all unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor.Document all work performed and all training received (or given).Communicate with all departmental/interdepartmental staff as required.Attend meetings and in-services as scheduled. Keep all logs current. Keep records of work and make reports.Maintain expense budgets within established guidelines.Requisition supplies and materials by following purchasing and department-specific procedures.Maintain documentation of building finishes and painting standards.Perform other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of 5 years of painting experience preferred with a concentration in finish work.Must have experience and knowledge in all areas of painting and surface preparation.EDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Heavy - This category includes physically intensive work such as lifting heavy materials (up to 100 lbs.), climbing ladders, crawling into tight spaces, and working on uneven, slippery, or elevated surfaces. Employees must demonstrate strong motor coordination, balance, and spatial awareness to safely operate tools and equipment. High visual and auditory alertness is required, especially in areas with moving machinery. Emotional demands are moderate, focusing on hazard recognition, task accuracy, and adherence to safety standards. Environmental exposures may include extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, loud noise, and mechanical hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and periodic physical examinations are often required.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.PAY RANGE:$19.75 - $25.06CITY:RochesterPOSTAL CODE:14621The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
