Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Facilities Worker to perform semi-skilled work under the head facilities serviceperson, maintaining cleanliness and safe conditions across school facilities.

You will supervise and train staff, operate boilers, HVAC, and cleaning equipment, climb ladders, and ensure security before departure, with emphasis on safety and timely completion of tasks.

Qualifications

• Standard high school diploma or GED completed.
• Ability to follow standard custodial practices.
• Capable of acting as Head Custodian in absence.
• Ability to plan and direct work of others and prepare schedules.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment and safety procedures.
• Ability to climb and work from ladders and at heights.
• Commitment to energy conservation and safety policies.
• Completion of related training programs may be required.

Responsibilities

• Review work performed by Facilities Serviceperson and others on shift.
• Instruct staff on use of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders and safety procedures.
• Perform duties of Facilities Serviceperson as needed.
• Operate and monitor boilers, AC equipment, power sources, etc.
• Climb ladders to change bulbs and perform minor repairs.
• Verify school security before departure and inspect perimeter.
• Report needs for supplies or maintenance work orders to supervisor.
• Perform the duties of Head Facilities Serviceperson during vacations or absences.
• Maintain safe working area and practice safety at all times.
• Participate in training to improve skills relevant to the assignment.
• Complete projects with proper time and materials recording.
• Physical ability to lift up to 55 pounds on average.
• Stay informed on current developments related to job responsibilities.
• Follow all safety procedures and district policies.
• Perform other duties requested by principal or administrator.
