Job summary

The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a Facilities Service Supervisor to lead day-to-day custodial operations and building and grounds maintenance for City facilities. This leadership role ensures buildings are clean, safe, and ready to serve employees, residents, and visitors daily.

You will supervise custodial staff, coordinate environmental service contracts, oversee security system updates, manage facilities inventories, and align operations with city policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Two years of college coursework or an Associate’s degree is required.
• 3–5 years experience in maintenance or custodial services with lead or supervisory responsibilities.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work with a diverse population.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee custodial operations and building/grounds maintenance.
• Supervise personnel with clear guidance and safety adherence.
• Coordinate environmental service contracts to meet city standards.
• Verify completed work and adjust instructions as needed.
• Collaborate with internal departments to address maintenance needs.
• Oversee Lenel security system updates and access control.
• Manage custodial inventory and coordinate distribution.
• Develop procurement specifications per city policies.
• Perform related duties to support safe facility operations.
