Job summary

City of Austin seeks an experienced Building & Grounds Assistant Manager to provide operational leadership for custodial and grounds services across facilities. You will coordinate staff, plan resources, and implement training and SOPs to meet service standards.

The role emphasizes safety, process improvement, and collaboration with stakeholders to maintain clean, safe environments while optimizing staffing and budgets.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus six years of experience in janitorial, grounds-keeping, building maintenance or related services.
• At least three years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
• Ability to plan, organize, and supervise multiple crews and tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing custodial, grounds keeping, and maintenance crews with daily work and quality control.
• Coordinate with divisions and contractors to schedule and deliver services across facilities.
• Support event setup/teardown and ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
• Maintain inventory and coordinate purchases; oversee tools and equipment maintenance.
• Assist with budget development and monitor expenditures within area.
• Write reports and communicate with staff and stakeholders as needed.
