Job summary

Federal Express Corporation is seeking a Design Engineer to lead material handling and conveyor designs for construction projects. You will develop AutoCAD conveyor layouts, draft comprehensive RFQs, manage RFI responses, and evaluate bids.

A Mechanical Engineering background (or equivalent) and AutoCAD experience are preferred. The role supports projects with construction drawings review for compliance with standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical degree required.
  • Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus for conveyor/layout work.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and web-based apps.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze performance data using engineering tools and answer basic questions.
  • Consolidate technical information and present findings for management.
  • Prepare expenditure proposals and cost justification analyses with guidance.
  • Document research, progress, and results for the team and internal customers.
  • Apply project management fundamentals and develop reports and memos.
  • Participate in Control Self Monitoring and Business Control Self-Assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Uses fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures to analyze operational data/methods, identify performance improvement opportunities, and/or implement technology systems that meet business objectives.

Detailed summary in the areas of: FACILITIES & MATERIAL HANDLING ENGINEERING: Supports the development and design of sites, buildings, offices, material handling systems, and sortation equipment. Supports vendors on preventative maintenance efforts for material handling and manual sortation equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Analyzes performance data within engineering. Utilizes engineering tools and software to analyze data and answers basic engineering questions.
  • Researches, analyzes, and effectively consolidates technical or engineering related information and presents for management review.
  • Prepares, with management guidance, accurate expenditure proposals and/or cost justification analysis.
  • Formulates and presents document research, progress, and results to team members and internal customers.
  • Applies project management fundamentals and concepts with management guidance. Develops progress reports, meeting minutes, and field communication memos for management review.
  • Participates in Control Self Monitoring (CSM) and/or Business Control Self-Assessment (BCSA) process within area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The preferred location for this hybrid position is Pittsburgh, PA. However, we will consider candidates based elsewhere within the US (excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories). Candidates residing within 50 miles of a FedEx campus will be required to work on-site at a FedEx location several times per week.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical or quantitative degree (e.g. mathematics) required.

Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.

Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
