Job summary

Boston Public Library is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee daily operations of custodial, maintenance, and MEP services. You will manage contracts, develop SOPs, and lead energy efficiency initiatives to keep the library’s buildings safe, efficient, and welcoming.

The role requires strong leadership, project management, and deep knowledge of building systems, with the ability to respond quickly to emergencies and coordinate with city departments and vendors.

Qualifications

• Requires five+ years as Facilities Manager in commercial real estate
• A degree or certs may substitute for up to two years experience
• Strong leadership and staff performance management skillsRequired knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day facilities staff including custodial, maintenance, and MEP services
• Manage service contracts, RFPs, and contract compliance with invoices
• Develop procedures, reports, schedules, and SOPs to ensure safety and efficiency
• Lead preventative maintenance programs and energy efficiency initiatives
• Respond to emergencies and minimize operational disruptions
• Establish KPI frameworks and report on facility performance and cost savings
• Maintain records with Library and City stakeholders; coordinate with PMO and licensing bodies
• Provide training and coaching to facilities staff; enforce HR processes and discipline as needed
• Maintain knowledge of building systems and compliance with OSHA/NFPA standards
• Ensure readiness for after-hours emergency responses
