Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform building maintenance, preventive tasks, repairs, inspections, and operations support at our NYC location. The role ensures that resident areas, offices, and grounds remain safe, functional, and well-maintained, with experience in basic carpentry, painting, and minor plumbing/electrical.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience in facilities or building maintenance.
• Experience with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repairs.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and work order systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot facility issues and perform repairs independently.
• Familiarity with hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair work orders.
• Inspect HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors/windows, and building systems.
• Troubleshoot issues and perform building repairs; escalate as needed.
• Maintain tools and work areas in a safe, organized condition.
• Support room turnovers, moves, and facility improvement projects.
• Assist with furniture moves, equipment setup, and space reconfigurations.
• Monitor areas to keep them safe, clean, and functional.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and building codes; document inspections via CMMS.
• Identify safety hazards and address them promptly.
• Use PPE and follow safety practices; support life-safety readiness.
• Assist with inspections by regulators or funders; build relationships with stakeholders.
• Keep accurate records in CMMS; perform other duties as assigned.
