Job summary

New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) seeks Facilities Operations Assistant 1 to support maintenance across armories, air bases, and training sites. Responsibilities include painting, custodial tasks, and assisting various trades under supervision.

The role involves light to heavy physical work and occasional travel to different facilities. The incumbent will perform routine maintenance, operate basic tools and equipment, and uphold safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York.
• May be required to acquire and maintain a military driver’s license to operate military vehicles and equipment per NGB standards.
• Physically able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor.
• Experience in maintenance, grounds work, construction, or similar labor‑intensive environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, snow/ice removal, and trash pickup.
• Perform general facilities maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and moving furniture.
• Maintain automotive equipment and other machinery; assist with various trades as required.
• Report to supervisory personnel; complete timesheets and work orders; participate in training as required.
• Occasional overtime and travel to other facilities may be required.
