Job summary

SEARHC is seeking an entry level Maintenance Mechanic I to assist higher level staff in maintenance, repair, and installation of hospital equipment across SEARHC facilities in Southeast Alaska. The role involves completing work orders, preventive maintenance, and travel to outlying communities as needed.

The position emphasizes safety training, basic mechanical troubleshooting, and the ability to read codes/manuals while supporting carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks, and equipment upkeep.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED – preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and remain insurable under the SEARHC automobile insurance policy – required.
• Complete Lockout Tagout online course within 90 days of hire.
• Complete the eye wash weekly testing competency within 90 days.
• Safety- 10-hour OSHA Competency completed within 90 days.
• Life safety 101 Competency completed within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Preventive maintenance. Maintain systems, equipment, and tools as assigned by the Facility Manager.
• Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical components; service heating, cooling, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems.
• Carpentry duties including doors, cabinets, ceilings, drywall, painting, and related tasks.
• Complete work orders promptly and document work performed for PM programs.
• Operate shop tools and heavy equipment; forklift, dump truck, backhoe as needed.
• Respond to locksmith tasks; install/repair locks and maintain records.
