Job summary

SEARHC is seeking an entry‑level Maintenance Mechanic I in Southeast Alaska to assist higher level staff with maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment across hospital and health facilities. The role includes completing work orders, performing preventive maintenance, and can involve travel to outlying communities as needed.

You will support a range of trades, from mechanical and electrical components to carpentry and grounds maintenance, under the Facility Manager’s direction.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED – preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and remain insurable under SEARHC policy – required.
• Complete Lockout Tagout online course within 90 days of hire.
• Complete the eye wash weekly testing competency within 90 days.
• Safety- 10‑hour OSHA Competency completed within 90 days.
• Life safety 101 Competency completed within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Preventive maintenance of systems, equipment, and tools as assigned by Facility Manager.
• Troubleshooting and basic repair of heating and cooling systems, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems and related equipment.
• Carpentry tasks: doors, cabinets, drywall, painting and related work.
• Complete work orders promptly according to priority.
• Operate shop tools and heavy equipment; forklift, dump truck, backhoe as needed.
• Identify and track supply needs, order supplies, and Research costs.
