Job summary

SEMCOA seeks a Director of Facilities to lead environmental operations for its New Bedford-based programs, including shelters, housing and community services. You will manage HVAC, safety, compliance, and capital projects, reporting to the COO, with a focus on creating a safe, well-maintained environment for residents and staff.

The role requires 10+ years in environmental facilities, 5+ in healthcare or similar settings, and a Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years environmental experience, with at least 5 years in healthcare or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, fire protection and building maintenance.
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to manage staff and contractors.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or facility management discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee environmental operations, HVAC, fire protection, grounds and maintenance.
• Develop and evaluate housekeeping, maintenance and safety policies.
• Implement CQI programs and preventive maintenance to ensure efficiency.
• Perform routine inspections and audits for safety and compliance.
• Lead safety committee and ensure emergency preparedness plans are up to date.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
• Supervise internal staff and external contractors; manage HR functions in department.
• Oversee capital improvements and manage budgetary aspects.
