Harris County is seeking a Facilities Coordinator to manage cemetery operations, including maintenance and customer service. The role requires a high school diploma, two years of relevant experience, and strong communication skills. This full-time position operates in both office and outdoor environments, with physical demands including lifting heavy objects.
About Harris County Community Services Department:
This office is focused on addressing the housing, infrastructure and public service needs of the low to moderate-income community in Harris County. This is accomplished through a process of securing and managing grants from the U.S. Office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and partnerships with other government and non-profit agencies, resulting in a variety of programs, projects, and services.
Facilities Coordinator Overview:
The Coordinator will make ready grave spaces for all cremation and burials in the county cemeteries. The Coordinator will also maintain both county cemetery facilities including contacting vendors to service facilities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Opening and closing of both county cemeteries
Performs maintenance for both facilities
Provides customer service to families, individuals, agencies, etc. inquiring about decedent burial locations
Coordinates burial spaces
Coordinates with vendors to service cemeteries
Orders grave markers and ledgers
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience in facility maintenance
Licensure:
Valid Driver's License (Texas upon hire)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Good written and verbal communication skills
Good attention to detail
Ability to multi-task
Have basic computer skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
Ability to enter data and run reports

Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience maintaining heavy equipment such as a tractor
Two (2) years' experience operating a tractor
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Full Time | Regular
Monday – Friday | 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Hybrid work schedule is not available for this position.
The employee will report to the Crosby Cemetery Office
Work Environment:
This job operates in an office environment and outdoor environment.
Occasional required travel to training events or meetings.
Possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes, loud noises in the environment, and/or dangerous chemicals.
Physical Demands:
This is a heavy work role.
This would require exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Infrequent exposure to embalming chemicals, pesticides, or weather conditions.
