Qualifications

Harris County Precinct 4 seeks a bilingual Facilities Assistant to maintain the external and internal appearance of Bayland Community Center. This position maintains the physical building and assists with routine community center needs. This position will warrant evening and/or weekend work hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness of the center daily by taking out trash, dusting surfaces, cleaning windows, vacuuming carpets, sweeping, mopping floors, and using cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Wash and sanitize restrooms.
  • Complete simple repairs and landscaping activities such as changing light bulbs and air filters, unclogging drains, fixing minor leaks, replacing broken switches, applying caulk, minor door repairs, garden maintenance, watering plants, and small area mowing.
  • Report major damages.
  • Assist center participants and groups.
  • Set-up and break down rooms.
  • Assist in the office, answering phones when necessary.
  • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors and setting the alarm.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • One (1) month of related experience and/or training as a facilities assistant.

Licensure:

  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.

Language:
  • Bilingual fluency, preferably Spanish
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
  • Familiarity with building systems like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Basic skills in minor repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety practices to maintain a secure environment.
  • Must possess physical ability to carry out job responsibilities, willing to work flexible hours, ability to work well with public; possess good judgement skills and exhibit willingness to accept direction; must have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision at times.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Be honest, trustworthy, respectful, flexible, and demonstrate sound work ethics.
